Beautiful imagery accompanied the author’s exploration of the bottomless feeling of grief experienced by a child-less parent. I’m not sure this book gave ‘me’ fully the comfort I needed for the sadness I feel — but it was a tender-eloquent-unique style of writing about the loss of a child.
I know not only what death is, but also what is life, and more than that, I see how life and death stand face-to-face, cooing at each other. Of course, that would make the most sense, for who but a grieving parent could hope to give life to such meaning and pain as described in the book? No trivia or quizzes yet. I read this book last night.

Grossman is a grieving parent himself. I had read Falling Out of Time two weeks before and felt my own grief about my parents understood by someone more fully than before, tenpo this book is a work of mourning and an examination of the mourning process more precise, more reverberating, and yet more gentle than anything I have read or heard. The entire book is devoted to mourning lost children, so things get a bit deep and teary and oh god, can we maybe not talk about this anymore?
